5-29 update

more progress has been made at the house. our electrician has been out there installing the 1,000 recess lights we will have. no joke, we've got a ton and by a ton, i mean 51 of them. we were told by everyone that had built a house, you can NEVER have enough lights. so we thought 51 would be sufficient, don't ya think?!?! the electrician had some of the lights connected so we could see what it looks like with lights on in a room.

bonus room
 guest room #2

mike, the trim guy, started on our window seat/storage in the bonus room.
next is the dining room. looks great!!

the trim in the kitchen has been painted. i love it!

the stairs are being put in place. the stain is not the right color, they will be redoing it.
mike also trim out the two windows on top. i had given him an example i found on houzz and he did it!

next is our master bath...it's coming along!

tomorrow, i'm picking up the two mirrors i ordered from lowe's for our master bath. i'm taking them along with some lights we picked out and ceiling fans for a couple of rooms out to the house for the electrician to install.

Memorial Day update

after a great weekend at the lake, we couldn't get to the house fast enough on monday morning. we arrived to find the house had been painted on the exterior in the front.  the shake was already the natural clay color because it was vinyl. the fiber cement board arrived only primed to be painted. we met with benjamin moore and took the sample of our shake to do a color match. we picked out a color and they started painting on friday. in the sun, it doesn't appear to be the exact color, but in the shade it does match.

the built ins are almost completed and they look great!

mike, the trim guy, also put up our molding in the kitchen and breakfast area. what a difference it makes! the trim will be the same color as the cabinets.

he also worked on the picture frame molding in the dining room.

the ceiling of the screened in porch got the first coat of blue. the color, breath of fresh air, is the perfect faint shade of blue. i'm so excited about it!! i'll try to get a better picture later on.

also, the ceiling of the front porch was installed. we went with bead board and it will be stained the dark walnut, the same color as the front door and hardwood floors throughout the house.

the tile man has started installing the tile in the master shower. sorry, my picture taking isn't quite level.

we officially have air conditioning units outside!! the large one will be for the basement and main floor. the smaller will be for the 2nd floor.

trim and tile

it is amazing how fast our trim guy gets things done. he is so talented and has been doing trim for so long, that he could probably do things with his eyes closed.

yesterday morning, we met our builder out at the house to go over a list of questions/action items. while were there mike, our trim guy, was out there. he has been working on our baseboards, window and door trim. when i arrived back out at the house after work, he had started on our built ins, which he had not started at all that morning!

he will build the cabinet on the right to be as tall as the one on the left. we are putting our tv in the cabinet on the left. each cabinet will have doors on the base. i think they already fill in that space and make a huge difference!

our tile guy laid the tile in the shower floor. look how great it looks!!

the slab of our granite in the bathroom.

yesterday while i was at the house, i also met with the guy who does our shower door. we are getting a framless, clear glass door. it will give the shower a clean look, just the look we were looking for. we also did a walk through of the whole house and the closets, laundry room and garage. i'm all about organization and i want to be able to move it and put everything in its place. having the closets exactly how i want them will help!

last night, since Jack went onto the lake with kurt's parents, we went to brecher's lighting and picked out our dining room, foyer, master bath and breakfast area light. we had looked high and low at lowe's and home depot and just weren't finding anything that we liked or thought would look good. we both agreed that once we were done with our lights, that a HUGE weight had been lifted off our shoulders. i'm SICK of looking at lights!!

we are heading to the lake today after work so we won't get back out to the house until monday. can't wait to see the progress made over the weekend!

may 22nd update

well, you've probably noticed that we've been posting more often. that is because every time we go to the house, there is something new that has been done.

i believe i mentioned that somehow the cabinets in Jack's bathroom were ordered incorrectly. not sure how it happened, but it did. just so happens, that the cabinets that didn't work in his bathroom, worked perfectly in our laundry room! we wanted to put cabinets in there, but hadn't had the chance to measure and look for some at lowe's. our builder picked up a laminate countertop that matches the tile, deep mop sink and had them installed yesterday. they look great!!

the next thing i found was the trim above our cabinets in the kitchen. our ceilings are 9'1" and we ordered 42" cabinets which are the tallest we could get.  we wanted to take them all the way to the ceiling but with that tall of the ceiling, we had to get creative. thank goodness for houzz.com, love that website! i'm not sure how anyone has ever built a house without utilizing that website. i know i know, it can be done and my parents did it, but geez, it would be difficult! anyway, back to the cabinets.  the picture below is what ours currently look like and the one below that is what we want it to look like.

next is the tile in the bathroom, it has been laid, but the grout hasn't been poured.  fyi- our shower is not going to be red. they have prepped it for the tile to be installed.

they painted all of the interior doors and will be installing them soon. along with the spindles for the stair case.

May 18th, 20th and 21st updates

on saturday the 18th, we went out to the house to check out our new garage door! the color matches the shake perfectly! we are really happy with the results.

also, while were out there, we found out that jack's bathroom had been painted! "little angel" is the name of the paint, go figure, how was i supposed to pick another yellow after reading the name! jack loves his big boy bathroom and room!

our trim guy started putting up the crown moulding and working to finish up the baseboards. we went into a house and fell in love with the wide crown moulding. what they do is put up the regular width moulding, then drop it down about a couple of inches, then put a skinnier moulding. in between the two, they'll paint the wall the color of all the trim and it will make it look as if the moulding is really wide. this really differentiates where the ceiling and the walls come together. i'm very pleased with it. the moulding is all throughout the great room, the 2nd floor landing, dining room and the master bedroom on the main floor as of right now. we will be extending it into the kitchen as well. i love the wide baseboards and the wide crown moulding.

kurt ran out on tuesday the 21st and found that the deck had been extended and looks awesome!!

he also found that our tile guy was working on the master bathroom floor. we.love.it!

next, the trim guy worked on the steps going to the 2nd level. i cannot wait until the railing goes up!! it makes me so nervous to walk up and down the steps holding jack. don't worry about counting them, there are 15!!
